Teaching Update

I’ve relocated to the Byron Bay Region and am giving myself some time to settle in before I restart teaching.

Big love, namaste, Angela XO

Teacher Bio

I have practiced yoga for nearly twenty years when I took my first class in Bondi Junction, a hub of yoga since the 80s. I remember standing on my head in class and doing all manner of ‘crazy’ moves that at the time I couldn’t quite ‘get’.

The main thing yoga has brought to me, is a deeper connection with mySelf. It was not until I had been practicing for some time, that I realised I was an integrated being, where mind and body were one.  Lying in forward bends, such as paschimottonasana meant I had to actually connect with my body and ultimately with my deeper self. This changed me forever.

Yoga always helps me reconnect.

I love pushing my own boundaries with yoga, particularly since recovering from a shoulder operation, re-learning to do handstands (why didn’t I keep them up as a kid?), backbends and so on, without fear that my shoulder will come out of the socket. I go through phases over the years, with periods of time relishing a more ‘yin’ style practice – holding poses for longer, deepening into the move with breathe and softening; but then I will bust out for a few months of intense power and strength, wishing I had joined the circus.

Humbling

Practicing yoga with an injury or a limitation of some sort has taught me humility. My shoulder injury has been with me for over fifteen years. Before I had surgery, it often sub-luxed (partially dislocated) in certain simple moves, even trikonasana (triangle pose), and took strict discipline and body awareness to stop this from occurring. Since the operation, I worked with yoga to lengthen the scare tissue and regain movement in the joint. I work within my limitations of this, speaking kind words to myself and my shoulder. We are both doing really well on our journey!

I completed Level 2 teacher training with Byron Yoga under John Oglivie and have undertaken additional intensive, training and practice with many skilled teachers including Simon Borg-Olivier & Bianca Machliss from Yoga Synergy, Rick Barnsdale from Dharma Shala, Jen Norman, Flo Fenton, Cat Kabira, Mark Whitwell & Mardi Kendell. Learning about, and through yoga is for life. I will always practice and integrate yoga in my life, and hope to inspire others to do the same. It is a wonderful gift we have been granted.

  1. I’ve had a nice read and I like your articles, I am familiar with the subjects though you write from a different perspective which made it all fresh, like I had missed something reading all of that permaculture design manual.
